We looked at the work of Akrithakis and we liked his geometrical shapes, bright primary colours and his “suitcases”
We referred to the story of the “ Queens Knickers” by Nicholas Allen, because even the Queen needs somewhere to keep her knickers!
And the Akrithakis’s “suitcases”, are perfect for her trips. We made “ handmade +suitcases” which we decorated to hold Queens knickers because she travels a lot.
The story liked a lot to children, infact it is very funny. The little girls loved dressing up as the Queen. The Queen has a par of knickers for every occasion: for romantic engagements for state occasions, for dancing, for seaside, for skiing…and so on… And she keeps them in special “drawers”. We covered the furniture with paintings by Akrithakis to make the Queen’s dressing room attractive. After that, we created many different works inspired by Akrithakis’s masterpieces for example.
An aquarium
Origami boats
Brightly coloured crepe paper designs
Others made with coloured salt on white papers
And others made with temperas.
This creativity inspired them to let their imagination loose. Here is our kids' works inspired by Akrithakis's butterflies. First we invited children to draw butterflies with different techniques. Then we compared they works with the paintings by Akrithakis. Finally the children made three-dimensional butterflies using pieces of plastic halloween hats and plasticine .
